In 2024, Woke Vote’s Freedom Schools launched in rural eastern North Carolina as a community-rooted model designed to equip young people and families with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to understand their power and participate fully in our democracy. Through civic education, leadership development, organizing training, and culturally relevant learning, Freedom Schools created spaces where participants could connect the issues impacting their everyday lives to the decisions being made in their communities and at the ballot box. The North Carolina effort demonstrated the power of pairing education with sustained community engagement, building a stronger pipeline of informed, activated leaders prepared to organize long after Election Day. And this is only the beginning. Stay tuned as Woke Vote takes the lessons and momentum from North Carolina and scales the Freedom Schools model in communities across the country.

Summer organizing Fellowship

We are building a movement for equity and justice. All across the country, our fellows will be soldiers in the army to fight mass incarceration, voter suppression and urban gun violence. After successful completion, fellows will be encouraged to continue the Woke Vote movement across their respective cities and states. The goal of this fellowship is to train and empower people to enact change in their communities through effective outreach and partnerships.

Voting is a comma, not a period. Woke Vote drives power to the polls by building sustained civic engagement through empowering new community leaders. Our work, therefore, doesn’t stop after elections end. Of the many injustices, gun violence, mass incarceration, voting rights disparities, immigration among many more, cultivating an active voting community among the historically disengaged is critical to the creed of our fragile democracy.

Woke vote Masterclass

The Masterclass is an intensive web-based training program for its alumni and seasoned organizers across a 4-week timeline. Each week our program partner BLUE Institute, LLC covers topics participants will be able to use while working on progressive electoral campaigns such as: organizing strategies, direct voter contact tools, team building best practices and career mobilization.

get out the vote (GOTV) bootcamp

Woke Vote GOTV Boot camp is a condensed version of the Woke Vote Summer fellowship that prepares organizers and volunteers for our big mobilization (GOTV) push. The boot camp is an opportunity for us to continue development of organizers in the communities we serve, and to build scale to reach our engagement goals. We are anticipating 100 participants and prepared to hire to join our field program as paid canvassers and organizers to scale mobilization efforts.
